When I gave birth to my first 3 children my husband and mother both worked full time and were unable to provide as much help as I would have liked. My mother was able to come and stay with me for a few days after my 4th child was born. I was able to spend memorable time getting to know my newborn as well as introducing her to her big sister and brothers in a calm, relaxing way without worrying about what I was going to feed them for lunch or when I would have time to do the laundry. I felt like a queen! 29 years later, I still have such positive memories of that time.
I spent many years providing prenatal and postpartum support and education as well as labor support on a full time basis. I have had much training in all things postpartum including breastfeeding, postpartum emotions, newborn care and early parenting.
In days gone by new parents were surrounded by family, friends and neighbors helping out in numerous ways. These days, with some families living quite a distance from each other and everyone having such busy lives, new parents are often left on their own. Although this is a wonderful time for family bonding and getting to know your new baby an extra pair of hands can be invaluable! This is where I come in...
As your postpartum doula I will be available to do many of the basic household tasks that are not near as important as caring for your baby and getting much needed rest but still need to be done. Sounds like a housekeeper? Maybe, but so much more! I can help with cleaning, cooking, laundry, caring for older siblings, running errands, etc. More importantly, I will be there to do what I do best, "mother the mother." I will be there to listen to you. provide emotional support and breastfeeding support, teach basic infant care if needed and assist in creating and supporting a calm, relaxing atmosphere!
Parenting is an amazing adventure! Let me assist you in making the beginning of this beautiful journey as easy and stress free as possible!
